In 2021, around 48 percent of people in Germany were interested in using an online digital ID instead of a physical one in the future. This survey shows the attitudes of people in Germany towards only having a digital ID.

This question was phrased by the source as follows: "In the future you will be able to use your phone to confirm your identity, there will be no need for a physical card. For this you will have to input the information of your personal ID into your phone once. Your identification data will be saved and encoded long-term. Would you be interested in this possibility?"

For the survey all respondents with a valid personal ID in Germany were considered. Top 2 boxes / bottom 2 boxes on a scale from 1 = very interested to 5 = completely uninterested.
