According to a survey conducted in Brazil in 2022, the regions with the highest share of people experiencing increased anxiety and anguish feelings during the COVID-19 pandemic were the North and the Northeast regions, with approximately 84 percent of respondents stating having experienced these type of feelings. The Southeast region followed, with around 80 percent of respondents reporting higher anxiety levels and emotional distress amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As of 2019, anxiety disorders and depressive disorders had the highest disability-adjusted life years per 100,000 population due to mental health conditions in Brazil.
