In 2022, more than 80 percent of South Korea's nuclear reactor exports went to the United Arab Emirates. According to the source, South Korea made up 2.32 percent of global nuclear reactor exports that year. 

Growth of energy exports

South Korea has developed its nuclear power technology to the point where four of its plants have been ranked among the top 10 leading nuclear power plants in the world in terms of capacity. With global acknowledgement of nuclear energy expertise, the country's export value of nuclear reactors has grown significantly over the years. Despite the global trend of disposal of nuclear-free policies, the government has been raising nuclear power technology as a key industry in the country, leading South Korea to become a major global nuclear reactor exporter.

Energy sources in South Korea

Coal, nuclear, and LNG accounted for more than 90 percent of total electric power generation in South Korea. However, concerns of environmental pollution, health hazards, and continuous dependency on imports of natural resources have prompted the country to look for alternative sources of energy. Therefore, to generate clean energy domestically, the South Korean government announced its third master energy plan, aiming to increase the share of renewable energy in power generation by more than 30 percent by 2040.
