Most purchased beverages in a week SEA 2022

According to a survey among Southeast Asian consumers in February 2022, 40.6 percent of the respondents bought coffee in the week prior. Soft drinks were also popular beverages in Southeast Asia, with 25.7 percent of the respondents purchasing them in the week before the survey in February 2022.

Leading shops and food categories

According to the same survey, Southeast Asian consumers frequented supermarkets the most as their shopping destination for food and beverages, with 37.4 percent of respondents going to a supermarket at least once a week. Furthermore, fruits were the most popular sweet snacks among Southeast Asian consumers. However, potato chips were the snack most bought overall, with nearly half of the respondents purchasing the snack in a week.

Spending on food and beverages in Southeast Asia

Consumer spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages in Southeast Asia is forecast to keep increasing in total value and per capita. In 2023, Southeast Asia's per capita spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages is expected to reach one thousand U.S. dollars. However, the real per capita spending on restaurants and hotels in Southeast Asia is forecast to decrease slightly in 2023.
