In 2021, around 20 percent of teenagers in Germany thought that WhatsApp's data protection was very secure. Only four percent thought that Instagram was not at all secure. This study shows how secure teenagers in Germany felt the data protection policy of various social media platforms was.
How secure teenagers think their data is on WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat is Germany 2021
JIM is a series of surveys published by the South-West Media Education Research Association (Medienpädagogische Forschungsbund Südwest), which is supported by the Regional Office for Communication Baden-Württemberg (Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg (LFK)) and the Regional Office for Media and Communication Rhineland-Palatinate (Landeszentrale für Medien und Kommunikation Rheinlandpfalz (LMK)). The surveys are developed in cooperation with SWR Media Research (SWR Medienforschung), the Association for Newspaper Market Research (Zeitungsmarktforschung Gesellschaft (ZMG)), the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung), as well as its regional offices in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate, and the Reading Foundation (der Stiftung Lesen).
Basis for the percentages is the number of users: WhatsApp: 1.141, TikTok: 735, Instagram: 867 und Snapchat: 731.
