Over 50 percent of the global nuclear power outages due to extreme weather events between 2000 and 2022 occurred by the coast. By comparison, between 1990 and 2019, the majority of the events happened near a river. Over the whole period considered, nuclear power unavailability events resulted in less than 50 terawatt hours of electricity production losses due to extreme weather conditions.
