In a 2020 survey of Chinese smokers, 40 percent of respondents reported buying cigarettes within a price range of 10-20 yuan per pack. In comparison, 16.4 percent of respondents purchased cigarettes that cost less than 10 yuan per pack.

Around 26.8 percent of the respondents were between 18 and 25 years old, 37 percent were between 26 and 35 years old, 22 percent were between 36 and 45 years old, 13 percent were between 46 and 60 years old, and 1.2 percent were above 60 years old.
Around 57.8 percent of the respondents had an annual income of more than 100,000 yuan, and around 34.8 percent of the respondents had an annual income of more than 200,000 yuan.
