Russia had the largest population among countries in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and Central Asia, at 143.6 million in 2022. It was followed by Turkey and Ukraine with 85.3 and 43.5 million inhabitants, respectively. The least populated country in the region was Montenegro.
