The Second World War was the first major international conflict to utilize aerial warfare to its full potential. The production of military aircraft took place on an unprecedented scale, with the United States producing over 190,000 planes in less than four years. In 1944 alone, The United States built more aircraft than Japan did throughout the entire war. Additionally, the major Allied powers built a total of almost 400,000 aircraft while militarily involved in the war, in comparison to the 158,000 produced by the Tripartite Axis powers.
