According to a survey conducted between 2019 to 2021 in India, the prevalence of hypertension among people with no schooling was significantly higher than those who had more years of schooling. Hypertension was highest at about 31% among women with no schooling.

An individual is classified as having hypertension if he/she has SBP ≥140 mmHg or DBP ≥90 mmHg at the time of the survey, or is currently taking medicine to lower her blood pressure.
