According to a survey conducted between 2019 and 2021 in India, the prevalence of hypertension was more in urban areas compared to rural areas. In the urban population, hypertension was higher among men compared to women.

An individual is classified as having hypertension if he/she has Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) ≥140 mmHg or Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP) ≥90 mmHg at the time of the survey, or is currently taking medicine to lower her blood pressure.
