In France, the subject of immigration, frequently put forward by certain political groups, reflects an important generational dissensus. When interviewed in August 2022, three out of five French people between the ages of 18 and 24 considered immigration to be an opportunity for their country. This proportion fell to less than one third among people over 50.
In 2021, about 8.7 million people living in France were born abroad.
