Gas export volume in Russia 2021-2030, by type
Russia was forecast to increase its gas exports to 265 billion cubic meters in 2030, by 5.6 percent compared to 2021, under the target scenario which assumes it could redirect 78 billion cubic meters of gas previously exported to Europe, including Turkey, to Asia. This increase could only be achieved if Russia exports a larger volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Under both target and negative scenarios, the country's sales volume of pipeline gas abroad was projected to decrease. Russia was the leading gas exporter worldwide in 2021.
