² The lifetime and 12 month prevalence of alcohol consumption describes the percentages of those who already once in their life or at least once in the 12 months before the survey had consumed alcohol, regardless of how often and how much they had drunk.

³ Regular alcohol consumption means at least weekly drinking in the 12 months before the survey.

⁴ The amount of alcohol consumed was determined by the frequency and amount of six different drink types. The frequency and amount refers to the 12 months before the survey. The definition of excessive alcohol consumption is when it exceeds the recommended adult limit. It is classed as a health risk at more than 24 grams (for men) and more than 12 grams (for women) per day.

⁵ Binge drinking means consumption of larger amounts of alcohol at once. In this case, larger amounts mean at least four (for women) or five (for men) glasses. The respondents answered on how many of the last 30 days they had drunk four or five glasses one after another. The 30-day prevalence of binge drinking is the share of those to whom this applies to on at least one of the last 30 days.
