In 2020, Sunflower Pharmaceutical Group spent more than 600 million yuan on advertising and promotions, while China Resources Sanjiu spent almost 450 million yuan. As many Chinese patent drugs are over-the-counter (OTC) medications, it is vital for manufacturers to promote their products in mass media. Traditional Chinese medicines are often seen as a cheaper alternative for medical treatments in China, while many believe that TCMs have fewer or no side effects.
