Share of teenagers and young adults consuming alcohol excessively in Germany from 2001 to 2021, by age group
The sample size only refers to the current reporting year. The earlier values refer to older survey results. Since 1973, the Drug Affinity Study (Drogenaffinitätsstudie) has tried to record the regular consumption of alcohol amongst young adults and since 1979 amongst teenagers. No figures available for the 18 to 25 age group in 2007.
The amount of alcohol consumed was determined by the frequency and amount of six different drink types. The frequency and amount refer to the 12 months before the survey. The definition of excessive alcohol consumption is when it exceeds the recommended adult limit. It is classed as a health risk when it is more than 24 grams (for men) and more than 12 grams (for women) per day.
