As the cost of rolling out renewable energy technologies continues to fall, the continuation of coal use is increasingly becoming uncompetitive in terms of operating costs. In 2020, savings related to replacing uncompetitive coal with renewable energy were estimated at 33 billion U.S. dollars worldwide. This figure is forecast to increase substantially, reaching 136 billion U.S. dollars by 2025.
