Taiwan had two operational nuclear reactors in 2023, the Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) of Maanshan 1 and 2, located in the south of the island. Four nuclear BWRs, Kuosheng 1 and 2 and Chinshan 1 and 2 were in the shutdown phase that year. The two Advanced Boiling Water Reactors of the Lungmen nuclear power plant, near Taipei, were under construction between 1999 and 2021, but a referendum resulted in their cancellation.
