In 2020, the employment level in Latin America and the Caribbean fell through all branches of economic activity. Restaurant and hotels, together with construction, were the sectors that experienced the largest fall in employment, reaching double-digit declines (17.9 and 11.7 percent respectively). While all branches registered a positive variation in level of employment in 2021, the recovery was asymmetric, and in some sectors it did not offset the fall of the previous year. Employment in construction and basic services grew by more than 10 percent, while in agriculture and extractive activities it was merely by 2.3 percent. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that this branch also registered the smallest decline in 2020: 1.8 percent.
