As of July 17, 2023, around 44 percent of Ukrainian agricultural exports secured by the Black Sea Grain Initiative went to high-income countries starting from August 2022. In comparison, low and lower-middle income countries together accounted for almost one fifth of the exports in physical terms. The Black Sea Grain Initiative, agreed upon by Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and the United Nations, opened three ports in Ukraine for exports of agricultural products. Looking at the breakdown of exported goods, corn was the leading commodity. On July 17, 2023, the Russian government announced that it suspended participation in the deal.
