Seven out of every ten delivery drivers in Mexico City do not have any public or private health insurance nor social security, according to a survey carried out in 2021. Furthermore, most of those who have public insurance, have it because they have another job thanks to which they are registered either in the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) or the ISSSTE (Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers). This survey also revealed that about 44 percent of those who decided to become delivery workers do so because they were unemployed.
