An estimated 175 million tons of virgin pulp was consumed globally in the production of paper in 2022, of which market pulp accounted for 40 percent. Bleached Chemical Pulp (BCP) from hardwood trees accounted for the largest share of market pulp consumed for paper production in 2022.
Integrated pulp is pulp produced in paper mills that also have the on-site capabilities to covert this into paper products. Meanwhile, market pulp is pulp sold to paper manufacturers without on-site pulp mills.
