Download and upload speed of the 5G network in Italy 2023, by provider

In Italy, in 2023, TIM led the way among mobile providers in Italy for 5G network speeds, with an average download speed of 239.3 Mbps and an upload speed of 22.8 Mbps. Vodafone was the second-fastest provider, offering an average download speed of 202.2 Mbps.

5G coverage and speed in Italy

In 2021, almost the entire Italian population had 5G broadband coverage both in urban and rural areas, where 5G was available around 17 percent and 14 percent of the time at speeds of 128.5 Mbps and 83.2 Mbps, respectively. Furthermore, the 700Mhz 5G frequency, expected to be completed by the end of 2022, is forecast to cover 99 percent of the population by 2023, while the 3.5GHz 5G network, expected to be launched by 2023, will be available to around 46 percent of the population in the same year.

However, in that same year, TIM provided the highest-quality video experience and the best game experience, while Iliad provided the best 5G voice app experience.
