Initiatives emanating from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement are expected to affect skilled labor wages in Africa. For instance, wages in North Africa are expected to increase by 15 percent in 2035 compared to 2022. This would be the highest impact on the continent, followed by Central and Western Africa with 13 percent and 12 percent, respectively. According to the source, impacts on relative wages are usually due to changes in the makeup of output caused by policy reforms. In May 2019, the AfCFTA agreement officially entered into force after 22 African countries had ratified it. The agreement sought to boost inter-regional trade.
