Among the trainee teachers working in the French National Education system in the 2020-2021 school year, more than three percent had chosen to leave the system permanently. This is more than two points higher than in 2008-2009. The number of resignations and contractual terminations of teachers in the public primary and secondary sector has also increased in recent years. The largest rise occurred in the last two years: in 2020-2021, 0.41 percent of public primary teachers resigned, compared to 0.27 percent the previous year.
