In 2022, almost a third of all open insurance startups globally were operating in the motor insurance sector. This was followed by health insurance, with 19.5 percent of open insurance startups globally operating in this segment. The lowest share of open insurance startups was in the segment of extreme weather insurance, at only 2.1 percent. Open insurance refers to the sharing of large volumes of structured data within a digital ecosystem, in order to spur the development of new and innovative insurance options to be made available for consumers.
