In 2022, almost 13 percent of the total deaths in South Africa were HIV/AIDS-related. This represented a slight increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to 2021. Since 2002, the share of AIDS-related deaths increased until 2006, reaching 40.3 percent, before declining significantly.
