The monthly traffic of rail passengers in South Africa in 2022 showed an increase until March and has shown decline from there onwards, with the lowest record being on June so far. In 2021, a rise and fall in the figures can be observed at several times during the year, with a lack of clear pattern. However, the highest traffic of passengers was during the months August to October, with the highest recorded in October at around 2.6 million passengers. In 2020, the highest number of passengers was recorded in the month February at around 10.67 million and the lowest on April with no traffic caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
