The daily earnings of a cargo vessel around the globe were 44,357 U.S. dollars per day on May 20, 2022. This is the average sum that needs to be expended to charter a cargo vessel (including tankers, bulkers, container ships, and gas carriers) around the globe. This is more than three times as much than the average vessel earnings in early 2019.
Clearly visible are high fluctuations at the beginning of the pandemic and a steadily climbing price of shipping during 2021. The war in Ukraine has increased prices again on a market that was seemingly seeing a return of vessel earnings to pre-pandemic levels.
