Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the end of February 2022, discussion emerged on whether Ukraine should be allowed to join the European Union. In a survey from March 2022, a majority of the population both in Sweden and the European Union were in favor of this, but the share was even higher in Sweden than in the rest of the Union. The share was highest in Poland, reaching 77 percent, whereas 46 percent of the Greeks opposed the idea of Ukraine joining the EU.
