Between 1985 and 2023, Brazil's natural vegetation (forest and non-forest natural formation) decreased by about 15 percent. The forest area fell to 503 million hectares in 2023, accounting for some 59 percent of Brazil's land cover. Meanwhile, land used for farming increased by more than 50 percent.
