Electric vehicles (EVs) use a variety of lithium-ion battery types, which vary by chemical composition and thus mineral content. For example, an average NMC811 battery - the latest generation of nickel, manganese, and cobalt batteries - contains 39, 5, and 5 kilograms of its cathode component materials, respectively. They also have the lowest demand for lithium, among the depicted types. Meanwhile NCA+ batteries contain on average two kilograms of cobalt, less than half the requirements of an NMC battery. It also requires the least amount of copper and steel among the displayed batteries.

Supplementary notes
The name of a battery type is based on its cathode chemical composition:
NMC811: nickel (80%), manganese (10%), cobalt (10%).
NCA+: Nickel cobalt aluminum oxide.
LFP: Lithium iron phosphate
