A 10-year lifetime extension for all nuclear power plants worldwide would generate almost 26,000 additional terawatt hours of electricity between 2020 and 2098. This value corresponds to a 66.6 percent increase in electricity production compared to 2020. A 20-year extension to the currently planned nuclear lifespan of 40 years would more than double electricity generation, while extending the lifetime to 80 years would produce an electricity volume of almost 160,000 terawatt hours.
Currently, the average age of nuclear reactors worldwide is between 31 and 40 years.
