According to a survey conducted from September to October 2022, around 40 percent of financial institutions in Japan reported that each of their relevant departments considered ESG and SDGs in financial operations. Four percent stated that they had no plans to consider ESG and SDGs in the future.

The survey sample comprised 355 financial institutions, including 9 city banks, trust banks, and other banks, 49 regional banks, 30 second-tier regional banks, 178 Shinkin banks, and 89 credit cooperatives.
