In 2022, the volume of fresh milk produced for consumption reached more than 648,000 metric tons in Portugal. Compared to the previous year, an approximately two percent decrease was recorded in the volume of milk produced. The production of milk powder was reduced by about 30 percent. The production of acidified milk, however, increased by about six percent in relation to the previous year. By 2023, 614,000 metric tons of milk for consumption, while whole-milk and semi-skimmed milk powder's production amounted to 8,000 metric tons.
