A survey carried out in Italy in 2021 showed that online shoppers aged between 18 and 34 years preferred mobile apps over websites when it came to shopping, with nearly 30 percent of them exclusively using apps. In turn, older e-buyers expressed a relatively low preference for in-app purchases, as they tended to mix desktop and app usage more.

The survey involved 23,394 participants across the following European countries: Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
* Between 800 and 1,556 participants were interviewed per country. All respondents had purchased physical products from online since January 2021, and received at least one package.
