In the period between 2010 and 2022, African countries experienced more floods than droughts. Flood events amounted to 458, compared to 81 droughts. However, according to climate-related research, the population affected by droughts over the period under review amounted to approximately 172 million, more than twice Germany’s current population. Comparatively, the number of people affected by floods over the same time span was more than three times lower.
