As of 2021, 36 percent of the use of proceeds from green bonds issued in Japan were used to finance in building projects. The energy sector was the second-largest recipient of green bond proceeds, at 32 percent. Between 2014 and 2021, green bonds worth 37 billion U.S. dollars were issued in Japan.
