In Portugal, mostly swine are slaughtered for public consumption. The data from November 2023 shows that almost 464,000 pigs were slaughtered for public consumption. Over the same period, the number of slaughtered cattle decreased comparing to the previous month.
The months of December and March show a higher number of animals slaughtered for public consumption, such as swine and sheep, which is explained by the holiday seasons.
