In 2023, the two wards with the largest share of residentially used building floor area in Tokyo's 23 wards were Nerima and Suginami, both at 91.5 percent. The ward with the largest commercially used floor space was Chiyoda at 76 percent. Together with Chuo and Minato, it is one of the only three wards in all of Tokyo in which the commercially used floor area of buildings surpasses the residentially used area. In 2023, almost 70 percent of the floor area of buildings in Tokyo was in residential use, as compared to commercially used floor area at 22.3 percent and industrially used space at almost five percent.
