In 2022, Germany experienced its worst wildfire season in decades, with over 4,000 hectares of land burned by wildland and forest fires. An unusually hot and dry summer had brought scorching temperatures to many parts of Germany, with drought conditions exacerbating fire risks in the country. One year later, as of December 2023, Germany's area lost to wildfires amounted to a total of 975 hectares.
