A great share of the pre-primary teaching personnel in the world in 2023 were women. Except for Sub-Saharan Africa, over 90 percent of the pre-primary school teachers in all world regions were women. The picture is more mixed among primary and secondary school teachers, but with the exception of Sub-Saharan Africa, the majority of primary school teachers in all world regions were women. On a world basis, slightly more than half of the teachers in secondary school are women.
