A June 2022 survey found that U.S. adults were generally more unsure about trusting data handling practices in Europe than their European counterparts. Overall, almost a third of U.S. respondents did not know or have no opinion on European governments storing and handling their personal data, whereas only 13 percent of respondents in Germany felt the same. Distrust about U.S. government data handling was also highest in Germany and France, with 50 percent of respondents from these countries not trusting the other side to do so adequately.
