After a rapid growth between 1977 and 1990, operable nuclear power capacity in Ukraine stabilized around a reference unit power of circa 13,100 megawatts electrical in 2004. Nuclear energy accounts for over 50 percent of the share of electricity generation in Ukraine. The main nuclear power plant by capacity is Zaporizhzhia power plant, under Russian control since March 2022.
