In April 2020, a survey conducted among marketers with decision-making authority in the United States in four different industries asked them about direct mail budget shares devoted to selected audiences. Existing customers who purchased frequently were the target audience that received the biggest budget shares of direct mail marketing. Out of the four industries included in the survey, marketers from the retail sector were allocating the largest share to their existing customers - 35 percent. The automotive marketers followed, with 33.2 percent of budget share.
