Chronic disease or long-standing health problems in Portugal 2016-2023, by gender
In Portugal, the share of people with chronic diseases or long-standing health problems (i.e., a health problem that has lasted or is likely to last for at least six months) has been increasing since 2019 reaching a total of about 45 percent of people in the year 2022. In 2023, there was a slight decrease. Women were more affected by chronic diseases or long-standing health problems with a difference of about five percent when compared to men in the same year.
