In 2020, the UK company WorldRemit purchased the African startup SendWave for 500 million U.S. dollars. Other main startup acquisitions occurred on the continent in the same year. For instance, the DPO Group, founded in Kenya, was acquired by Network International, which has its headquarters in Dubai, UAE, for around 290 million U.S. dollars.
