Klarna's global gross merchandise volume or GMV continued to grow in 2023, increasing by over 40 billion USD between Q3 2022 and Q3 2023. GMV measures the value of the products sold through the Klarna platform, and is essentially the same as the company's sales value. From these sales, Klarna take commissions and merchants fees to make up their revenue stream. Klarna's revenue — like the GMV — increased in the first quarter of 2022, but the company's profit did not.

The source only fully reported GMV from 2019 onwards, until then, referring to "underlying sales". It, however, did not report this figure every quarter.

Unlike other figures, the source generally reports GMV in both Swedish krona (SEK) and the U.S. dollar (USD). It does so by taking the average exchange rate for the full period YTD — e.g., the source calculates its USD figure for Q3 2021 using the average SEK/USD rate between January and September 2021. In this statistic, the period under consideration is July to September 2021.

The figures have been taken from several publications.

The USD figures have been calculated by Statista, based on bilateral exchange rates from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
