In 2021, Nigeria received most of the checks issued towards early-stage startup funding in Africa. The country accounted for slightly over 25 percent of the startup checks, followed by Egypt and South Africa with 24.9 percent and 10.7 percent, respectively. Overall, West Africa was the leading region in terms of early-stage startup funding in Africa as of 2021.
