For example, Mozambique could be forced to pay up to 31 billion U.S. dollars if existing oil and gas projects in that country were blocked by the government. As countries move away from fossil fuel dependence, cancellations of existing oil, gas, and coal projects could lead to great financial burdens on countries should developers decide to sue their governments.
